PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
